Course Description

Biochemical engineering is a branch of Chemical Engineering or Biological Engineering. The course essentially covers an advanced study of concepts and processes involved in the design and construction of unit processes involving biological organisms or molecules. The curriculum primarily focuses on the interaction between the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Bio Chemistry and Microbiology. Applications of the specialty are found in pharmaceutical, food and water treatment industries. Th e program’s objective is to train eligible students in biochemical engineering, biotechnology, microbial and enzyme systems, and in developing advanced understanding of the biological or biochemical phenomena underlying such systems. The curriculum also covers engineering analyses and optimal designs of various biological systems and processes. Students are also taught concepts of kinetics of growth, death, and metabolism, fermentation, agitation, mass transfer, and enzyme technology.

Eligibility

The candidate should have completed B.Tech in Biochemical/ Chemical/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics /M.Sc. in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Life Sciences / Chemistry from a recognized university with Minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Many colleges conduct Entrance exams for admission to this course.
