Urologists may treat general urological diseases or further specialise in a particular type of urology such as female urology, male infertility, neuro-urology, pediatric urology, or urologic oncology.

Urologists are specialists in the field of urology who examine the urinary system and reproductive organs to identify infections, tumours, illnesses, and abnormalities. Surgery to remove kidney stones and other blockages in the urinary tract that may be causing symptoms in patients is occasionally necessary by urologists. Patients with enlarged prostates, interstitial cystitis, overactive bladder, and prostatitis are treated and diagnosed by urologists. Some urologists have further training in reconstructive surgery, and they may conduct procedures on genitalia anomalies that are present at birth, as well as help patients who have been harmed in an accident. They employ X-rays, fluoroscopes, blood and urine tests, ultrasounds, and catheters to diagnose diseases in patients. They treat bladder infections in women and urethritis in men using antibiotics, and they conduct a variety of procedures to treat bladder and kidney malignancies.
