Who is Taekwondo Player?

Taekwondo is a type of Korean martial art that also happens to be an Olympic sport. Taekwondo is the art of self-defence. And its training is very rigorous, consisting of hardening the body through the practice of the various attack and defence forms. Taekwondo's history has been originated from the Korean martial arts of Taekkyeon, Subak and Gwonbeop but also has important foundations of other martial arts such as Japanese Karate and Chinese Kung Fu. What does Taekwondo Player do?

Taekwondo players partake in fights that are not normal for boxing or wrestling, which have severe rules of commitment. The fights are known for their no-nonsense hand-to-hand battle, which commonly happens inside an enclosure rather than a ring with the use of minimal safety equipment, with protective gear typically restricted to open-fingered gloves.

  1. It is a moral duty of takwondoin to show respect towards his senior (Sun Bae-Nim) in belt grade by addressing him or her as Sir (Son Saeg-Nim) or Madam (Puin or Madam) in due respect (Jon-Gyung) and must show humility.
  2. A Taekwondoin should treat his Master (Sah Bum-Nim) as a role-model and should give full respect and care.
  3. The Taekwondoins duplicate their Master's style and tradition as an identity.
  4. A Taekwondo player must be honest at all times, not only to the instructor and fellow students but also to oneself.

What are the skills, abilities & aptitude needed to become Taekwondo Player?

Taekwondo tradition has got its core from decent human values such as self-discipline (Kuk-Gi), good conduct, decency (Ye-Jol) behaviour, sincerity, honesty, and integrity (Yom-Chi). A Taekwondo practitioner (Suryun-Saeng) is not supposed to misbehave ever even if provoked or harassed.

Apart from this, there are other very important skills that one must learn if taking Taekwondo for a lifetime.
