Who is Portfolio Manager?
A portfolio manager is in charge of investing the assets of a mutual, exchange-traded, or closed-end fund, executing its investment strategy, and overseeing day-to-day portfolio trading. One of the most crucial elements to consider is the portfolio manager when it comes to funding investment. Portfolio managers choose the goods, sectors, and areas that will make up their company's investment portfolio. These managers are in charge of the portfolio's overall performance. In meetings with stakeholders, they must also explain investment choices and plans.

What does Portfolio Manager do?
A portfolio manager is a high-level financial analyst who helps a firm or customer make executive choices. Portfolio management is one of an investment banker's roles other than fund management. Portfolio management firms or investment banks often employ these managers; however, they can work for several companies. A portfolio manager's responsibilities include managing a team of financial analysts and developing a financial portfolio for a firm or client. Portfolio managers assist in deciding which sectors, products, and areas to invest in. Portfolio managers must also lead investor meetings and adjust portfolios fast in response to market fluctuations.
- Size of fund: A portfolio manager may manage assets for a relatively small independent fund or a large asset management institution. A portfolio manager may also manage the capital of a large business such as a bank or an organization with a large endowment, such as a college or university.
- A manager who manages assets for a large money management institution is commonly referred to as a portfolio manager, while someone who manages smaller fund assets is typically called a fund manager.
- Type of investment vehicles: All types of money managers perform virtually the same function: managing assets for their respective investment vehicles, which vary widely. The range of investment vehicles includes retail or mutual funds, institutional funds, hedge fund products, trust, and pension funds, and commodity and high net worth investment pools. Portfolio managers may manage equity or fixed-income investment vehicles and often specialize in one or the other.
- Investing style: In addition to specializing in equity- or fixed-income investing, portfolio managers tend to specialize when it comes to styles of investing. Investment styles include: hedging techniques, growth or value style of management, small or large-cap specialities, and domestic or international fund investing.
