Politicians can operate on a local, state or national level and are either elected into office or are appointed by a leader who is already in the office. There are two ways to begin a political career in Indian Democracy. One can either join an established party or a new party and work independently.

One can be elected to the village panchayat, district board, municipality or municipal corporation, official and non-official organizations, state legislative assembly, or Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
