Any individual who gives investment advice or conducts securities research for a fee, whether directly managing clients' funds or through written publications, is considered an investment adviser. An investment adviser advises clients about investing in securities such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or exchange-traded funds.
- As Investment Adviser, you will use several different investment styles and strategies, such as growth or value.
- Some investment advisers specialise in stocks/equities or bonds / fixed-income investments, while others manage portfolios that consist of investments in stocks, bonds, and cash.
- Some financial advisors create customised investment portfolios for each client.
- Other financial advisors stick to a single or more centrally managed portfolio that reflects a particular investment strategy, style, or model.
- Clients may hire many advisors with various investing methods and approaches to diversify their portfolios.

What are the skills, abilities & aptitude needed to become Investment Adviser?
To be an Investment adviser, you should know the basic steps in the advisory process, including making and implementing a financial plan. In addition, understand how to evaluate different financial products, their suitability and how the recommendation can impact investment risks, returns and strategies in a personal finance environment for investors and prospective investors in the market. Knowledge of income tax, wealth tax and legalities of Estate planning in personal finance, and regulatory aspects underlying advisory are also important.
